Rucks of Fun specialises in music, movement, rhythm and fun. This combination plays an integral role in young children's development and learning, by engaging the whole body and activating many parts of the brain at once.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The principles of the Early Years Foundation stage in preparing children for school are clear:
Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
Positive relationships enable children to be strong and independent.
Children learn and develp in enabling environments where experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents/carers.
Children learn and develop in different wanys and at different rates. The framework directs the education and care of all children in early years' provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Rucks of Fun supports these principles by its inclusivity of all children, providing a social environment to listen, respect and learn from each other. Positive relationships are built between children and adults as we all learn, play and encourage each other. the learning environments are fun and stimulating with music and movement and resources to captivate and interest young children.
EYFS - Seven Areas of Learning and Development
The areas of learning and development establish expectations for most children to reach by the end of the Foundation Stage.
Communication and Language
Communication and language development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.
Rucks of Fun gives children the opportunity to experience a wide range of music, rhymes, songs and games. They will learn to follow instructions and express themselves and link language with actions. Listening and communication are essential skills for all children. Children are taught to listen carefully, to respond to what they hear, to vocalise sounds and communicate through talking and actions.
Physical development involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity and to make healthy choices in relation to food.
At Rucks of Fun children have the opportunity to explore and develop their movement skills in a variety of structured and creative ways. The use of equipment and props (some homemade!) encourage the development of fine and gross motor skills. Children can express themselves freely to music, developing imagination, agility and sequencing skills, coordination, balance and spatial awareness. Children learn to move safely and keep healthy.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Personal, social and emotional development involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.
Rucks of Fun provides opportunities for children to develop self-confidence and self-esteem by trying new activites. Children learn to interact co-operatively with other children and develop respect for others Working in a group allows children to develop self-control and social skills forming positive relationships with friends and other adults. The use of good manners and praise is modelled and encouraged in all classes.
Literacy development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters to begin to read and write. Children must have access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems and other written materials) to ignite their interest.
Rucks of Fun has printed rhymes as part of each lesson. During the lesson, children use the clues from 'What's in the Bag?' to discover which traditional rhyme book they will read and sing along to. There are craft ideas or colouring materials linked to the lesson themes for children to take home after class, providing opportunity for children to see, read or use written materials.
Mathematics involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting; understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces and measures.
Rucks of Fun develops mathematical understanding through songs, rhymes and games so that children can enjoy and experiment with colours, numbers, shapes and measures. Classes help children learn about positions, patterns, distance and timing in a fun and stimulating way.
Understanding the World
Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
Rucks of Fun uses a variety of themes about the world around us, accompanied by visual aids, props and of course music to allow opportunity for exploration, observation, prediction and discussion. The themes are designed to encourage all children to have an enquiring mind and curiosity about their surroundings and about how they think and do things. Celebration themes, including those from other cultures, help children embrace the diversity of people and places.
Expressive Arts and Design
Expressive arts and design involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play and design and technology.
Rucks of Fun provides children with the opportunity to create dance, actions and movements to a diverse range of music in an environment where creativity, originality, imagination and expression are encouraged and valued. Many activities encourage children to explore with all their senses. Thoughts and feelings can be communicated non-verbally.
